From the Port of Corfu, we cross to the Albanian coast and the port of Saranda. After a short coffee break in Saranda, we take you on a 20 km guided coach tour of the south coast’s virgin shores. We pass picturesque small villages and endless fertile plains that lead us to Lake Butrint.
Here starts the highlight of your day, a visit to Butrint – a UNESCO World Heritage site. Through the centuries, the ancient town had disappeared under layers of silt and vegetation. However, in recent years, archaeologists have uncovered some of the finest working town remnants in the Mediterranean. At the edge of Lake Butrint, we find the ancient city of Vouthrota. The Venetian Tower near the entrance, the old theatre, Temple of Asclepius, ancient gymnasium, Roman Baths, Roman Baptistery, with its priceless mosaic floor, the Lion Gate, and the enormous Cyclopean walls will take you back in time from 2,500 years till the 3rd century A.D.
At the top of the hill, the Venetian Castle will offer you impressive, scenic pictures of the ancient city, the lake, and the endless fields below. Upon our return to Saranda, we offer you a delicious lunch.
After lunch, you can join us on a walking tour through Saranda before we finally depart this land that time forgot.
Join us and explore Mainland Albania – a truly magical place!
